A new generation of Thames boatbuilders maintaining the traditions of the past

Henley Festival 2011 - July 2011

This year the Henley Festival played host to the 50ft steam powered umpire’s launch Consuta which was moored up on the Festival site, ‘in steam’, with Colin Henwood at the helm!

Consuta has been completely restored by Henwood & Dean Boatbuilders and members of the Consuta Trust of which Colin is a Trustee. Festival goers had the chance to experience this unique and historical craft first hand and see the delights of the Festival from the river.

Henwood & Dean were also delighted to be exhibiting on ‘dry land’ at this year’s Festival with Sheila, their 1924 Austin 12/4 and Gillian a Thames Traditional skiff built in 1908 and completely restored to its former glory by Colin in the 1990s.

Lucie Henwood was especially delighted that the Festival's star attraction, the legendary Tom Jones, was driven to his performance on stage courtesy of Sheila with Colin at the wheel!
