Saturday 4th June saw a truly ‘oarsome’ event at Henwood and Dean’s workshops in the beautiful countryside near Henley. It was held in aid of young Leander oarswoman Rachel Gamble-Flint who needed financial support to purchase a new sculling boat to help her in her aim to be selected for the GB Elite rowing squad and ultimately the Olympic team.
The boatyard was transformed overnight into an art gallery hung with over 100 pieces of art from well-known professionals as well as local artists, and included sculpture, glass, wood and pottery.
The event was a huge success with over 400 invited guests coming along to enjoy a real ‘party’ atmosphere with wonderful performances throughout the afternoon by local musicians; complimentary drinks; amazing canapés and delicious cakes; a raffle with fantastic prizes; and a bar serving wine, local beer and ‘Oarsome’ Punch.
The event was attended by Debbie Flood, World Champion and Gold Olympic Medallist Rower, who had been very supportive of Rachel and came to give a speech on her behalf.
Over £3800 was raised towards Rachel’s boat fund.
