Encouraging young craftsmen
We have been fortunate to work on several Venetian boats including the beautiful Balotina ‘Nicolotta’ which underwent extensive revarnshing in 2008.
Through membership of City Barge, an organisation dedicated to promoting Venetian rowing in this country, Colin Henwood has mastered the art of rowing Venetian style and has had the honour of rowing in Venice at several events with Venetian rowing club, the Settemari.
Henwood & Dean Boatbuilders exhibit at a number of prestigious events during the year in our beautiful exhibition space – an 18ft Mongolian yurt made from steam bent ash and natural cotton canvas. Around the walls of the tent hangs an impressive 22ft long panoramic photograph, printed onto canvas, showing our workforce busy in our Hambleden workshop.
Because we consider it paramount that young craftsmen and women are given opportunities to gain experience within a businesslike environment, we regularly welcome local students for work experience in our workshop.
In recognition of this we have been given an "Investors in Education" Award and in 2009, a South Oxfordshire EBP Vocational Programme Award.
